The Poetry Botanica is a multi-media interactive event inspired in the popular, and now almost extinct botanicas of the Latino communities. A mixture of spirituality, folk remedies and magic, the popular botanica is the perfect medium for an artist-poet-shaman to work her craft. In the Poetry Botanica the audience walks into a space that transformed into a botanica. They play with interactive installations, enjoy a profound journey of transformation via a storytelling/dance performance and purchase the arts and crafts, books and other products for personal transformation shown in the artists kiosks. Bloom where you are planted
The storyThe seed had been blown by the wind into a small patch of soil at the far corner of the cement backyard of a factory.
The soil was polluted and full of garbage. But the seed felt a great urge to burst out of its shell, so it did.
As it reached into the soil, it met debris, poison and cement walls. Yet it diligently searched and found its way to nurturing minerals.
As it reached up, it found garbage, cement walls and the shadow of the tall buildings. Yet it courageously sought and found a patch of sky and sun that helped it grow.
The tiny seed blossomed into a beautiful rose. But all around, there was junk and debris. Seeing herself under these circumsntances, The Rose doubted its beauty and its purpose.
Then came a lonely worker from the factory. Like The Rose, this woman doubted her value and her purpose. At that moment The Rose understood her purpose, and both, rose and woman blossomed.
The storytellerMaria Mar is an artist, poet and storyteller with more than 20 years of experience on stage. She has performed in Aaron Davis Hall, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, Penn State University and many other venues in the USA and abroad.
Maria is also an author of fiction and non-fiction who has been published by the University of Arizona Press, ShamansDance Publishing & Productions and others. Her articles have appeared on a variety of printed and online media.
Finally, Ms. Mar is a spiritual teacher and non-denominational shaman especializing in personal transformation through the arts and the leadership of the Sacred Feminine. |

It comes from her experience of suddenly finding herself with nothing and doubting her own value. When Ms. Mar looked at her empty hands, she suddenly realized that the lines of her hand held her history. Then she remembered that ~while she had lost all she had previously done~ her hands could still write and create. At that moment, she realized that her hands were not empty, but full of her talents, genius, wisdom and experience.
From that transformation emerged the teachings of Awakening the Rose and the Success Seed Gardening.

Welcome to the Dream Express! A ride from your pressing problems into your infinite possibilities
The Law of Attraction has been all the rage in the past years. Many have tried and few have achieved the riches, success and bliss that have been offered.
In this magical storytelling performance, Maria Mar takes the audience through a real, mind-expanding, soul-stirring journey in the Dream Express. This train is the alternative to the RR train (Rush and Routine) train in which most of us are riding right now. The ride in the RR train creates stress, fear, disconnection from our bodies and souls, modern indenture and a feeling that we are spinning our wheels in place, going nowhere.
In contrast, the Dream Express is a journey that releases stress, connects you to your body and your soul, awakens your imagination and helps you remember who you truly are, what you truly desire, what is important to you. It then takes you to the place where you already ARE this; where you can create this every day in your life. The Dream Express is a journey to the deep place within you where you are the creator and protagonist of your life.
The Story Behind the Story
Maria wondered "What would happen if there was an express train that would take you towards your purpose and your dreams?"
That question lead to the creation of her upcoming inspirational novel, Angelina and the Law of Attraction.
The performerMaria Mar is an artist, poet, storyteller, author of fiction and non-fiction and a spiritual teacher (non-denominational shaman) especializing in personal transformation through the arts.
Maria walks her talk, and this story IS her walk.
When she began to write the novel she had lost all she had in a home environmental disaster and was left homeless. When she finished writing, she had a business especially created to express and share her unique blend of talents. Just as she took the journey while she was writing, Maria now offers the journey to others in several ways:

The storytelling EventsMs. Mar has alsoe developed a series of storytelling events connected to the novel, be it at a local venue or through live streaming.
Catch the dream ExpressHop into the Dream Express for a ride through 7 stations in the Dream Express. Maria Mar as the narrator introduces the story and enacts the two main characters: Angelina, the seeker; and Dragonfly Diva; the guide.
But there is a third character. Each and every member of the audience is that character as she or he rides in the Dream Express.
Through simple movements and exercises the audience goes into this magical ride and experiences how we create our own obstacles and how we can dismantle them and create a life we love.
Follow-up servicesFinally, the reader/audience member can take Angelina's place as the protagonist of her own heroic quest for her own DreamSelf, and have Maria Mar become the Dragonfly Diva that shows her the way. This is done through the Catch the Dream Express membership, where women can use each chapter of the novel to rewrite their own real lives with the support of Maria Mar and like-hearted women.

Take the Goddess out of your Suitcase
You've kept her hidden long enough. It's time to let her out!
Maria Mar enters the space dressed in grey and carrying an old suitcase that seems to have gone everywhere.
As the story unfolds, the grey suit comes off and the storyteller tries a variety of costumes, only to shed them one by one as she sheds the roles that hid her true radiance and keep her playing inside the box.
The dresses beging to get outlandish as the storyteller, embodying the Unique Everywoman, comes into her own.
By letting the Goddess out of the suitcase, the storyteller (and the women traveling with her) finds her Unique Essence, her life purpose, her organic talents and her female way of leadership.

The Tao of Trees
Ecological poetry This deeply relaxing, meditative and soulful poetry performance brings people into a state of inner peace while connecting them to the blessings that tree give us in our lives. The audience will never look at a tree again as a lifeless thing after this!
The Tao of Tree is a multi-media poetry performance that includes live music, dance, poetry recitation and visual art presentation.
Maria shares the poems that the trees shared with her as they healed her during a moment of deep crisis.

a storytelling performance about the intrinsic value of a human being.
Nature does not make mistakes. It creates what it needs. Each of us is
needed by the universe when s/he is born. Our birth is a summoning and our
soul has shown up. We are already a success!

anticipation of the publishing revolution now well in its way, from the
beginning of her business, Maria created a concept called Book Beyond

The more people you expect, the more installations you need so that they can "play" simultaneously. The more installations and people, the more time the event takes. The more installations, people and time, the more cast and crew members we need. We can discuss your event and costumize something to fit.
Time and structure
- Part 1: The art environment. The shaman welcomes the audience, introduces them to the topics and guides them on how to "play" in the installations. People enjoy the 3-dimensional art, playing in the interactive installations and purchasing in the arts & crafts kiosks. (40-90 minutes)
- Part 2: The Storytelling. The performance starts and the shaman takes the people into a journey of healing and transformation. (20-40 minutes)
- Part 3: Closure Ceremony. The performance ends with a closure ceremony that allows people to participate with a simple simple action that brings their intentions to closure. (10-30 minutes)
- Part 4: Follow-up Resources. The shaman then invites those in the audience who want to take some tools or inspiration home to approach the main kiosk, where the products and services related to the topic are sold (or gifted by a sponsor). (20-60 minutes)
Minimum time: 90 minutes/Maximum time: half-day event
Production requirements
| Some events require a projector and/or sound equipment. |
| All performances require a dance/performance space that is close to the audience, preferibly at the same level, and preferibly with chairs in a horse-shoe formation around the space. The intimacy between audience and performers is vital. |
| All events require sturdy tables for the kiosks. The number of tables depends on your choice of kiosks. |
| Electrical outlets nearby are needed. |
| Stage lights add quality and magic to the event. Unless you have the facilities, this incurs additional cost. |
Livestreaming/Video
We can stream the event while it is happening via internet to any part of the world. Livestreaming in our livestream channel is optional. If you have or want us to get a video crew, we can arrange this. Livestreaming allows you to serve audiences beyond the ones attending and at a fraction of the cost of the local event. (It can also be free or used as a fundraiser.) We can also show or sell the taped performance as an online video or a DVD afterwards.
